Parent logistics and student preparation can move in parallel. Your student can create the account, request recommendations, and begin writing while you gather household information. The numbered rows are a checklist, not a required national sequence. School-specific document deadlines still apply.
Parent and sibling facts the live form asks for can be prepared on the Common App parent household worksheet. The independent-learner question is answered from the live Family section, not from that worksheet. This page records which accounts and documents are launched, and who owns each step.

Launch week
Standing household roles stay on the parent-student responsibility map. A later mixed execution list is the college application checklist. Leftover summer logistics, if they are still open, belong on junior summer parent logistics.
Parent logistics
These can move while your student starts their own accounts and writing. Mark the Family-section gather row Done or Not yet after you review the questions on the live form. Parent and sibling answers, when the form asks for them, can be prepared on the household worksheet. Mark the parent Common App row Not applicable when the independent-student route removes those questions.
Student preparation
Your student can create accounts, request recommendations, and begin writing while household information is still being gathered. If you are asked to read a draft, use the parent college essay feedback protocol. For who does which task, see how parents can help without taking over.
